Who is Alyson Hannigan?

Alyson Hannigan was born Alyson (or Alison, depending on the source) Lee Hannigan on the 24th of March, 1974, in Washington DC. Alyson is Jewish on her mother’s side, and has Irish roots. Her parents divorced when she was young and her mother raised her in Atlanta. She formally began her acting career in 1985 when she moved to Los Angeles. Her first role was in the comedy My Stepmother is an Alien in 1988. One of her co-stars was Seth Green. She also had supporting roles on Picket Fences, Roseanne, and Touched by an Angel. In 1997, Alyson was cast as Willow Rosenberg in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the television series. She reunited with pal Seth Green who became her onscreen boyfriend. The show was a massive success, and Alyson also appeared in the spin off Angel whilst Buffy was still in production. By the final series of Buffy, Alyson was earning $250,000 per episode. She appeared in teen flicks American Pie, American Pie 2, Boys and Girls, and American Wedding. In 2004, she made her West End debut in When Harry Met Sally, opposite Luke Perry. In 2005, she returned to sitcoms as Lily in How I Met Your Mother. Alyson married her Buffy and Angel co-star Alexis Denisof in October 2003.
