Alsou was born on the 27th of June, 1983, in Bogelma, Tatarstan, Russia. She was named Alsou Ralifovna Abramova by her Russian parliament member father, Ralif Rafilovich Safin. He also owns a football team and was the 100th richest Russian in 2004. Alsou’s mother is an architect. Alsou completed a private performance at her brother’s wedding in 1998, singing I Will Always Love You and playing the piano, and her family persuaded her to professionally pursue singing. She met music manager Valeriy Belotserkovskiy and the very next day they began working together. She released her debut album in 1999, and after its massive success, she was signed to Universal Music Russia. In 2000, Alsou released her single Solo, her first in the English language. She entered it into the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000, and finished second. Solo sold 100,000 copies and was Russia’s biggest selling single of all time, until she released her next hit, a duet with Enrique Iglesias. Alsou worked on her debut English album from 2000 to 2001, and she released her second Russian album in 2002. In 2003, Alsou released her third Russian album with the title 19, and she nominated and won the Best Female Artist award at the First National Music Award ‘Muz-TV’. For four years, Alsou created a second English album with the title Inspired. She recorded it in London and Los Angeles, but it remains unreleased.
