Alicia Witt was born Alician Roanne Witt on the 21st of August, 1975, in Worcester, Massachusetts, in the United States. Her parents are a science teacher and a reading teacher, and she has a brother named Ian. In 1980, at five years of age, Alicia appeared on the television show That’s Incredible reciting Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. David Lynch saw Alicia on the show, and cast her in the movie Dune in 1984. Alicia then left Hollywood to concentrate on her studies, and her parents home schooled her. Alicia studied piano at Boston University and won many classical piano competitions around the world. By fourteen years of age, Alicia had earned her high school diploma and she moved back to Hollywood. David Lynch, her mentor, created the role of Gersten Hayward for Alicia in Twin Peaks. He also cast her in the segment Blackout, part of Hotel Room. Alicia went on to win a Special Jury Recognition Award at Sundance, played Cybill Shepherd’s daughter Zoey in Cybill for three years until 1998, and appeared in Ally McBeal, The Sopranos, Cecil B. Demented, Vanilla Sky, Two Weeks Notice, The Upside of Anger, and she is now set to join the cast of Law and Order: Criminal Intent for the 2007-08 season.
