Alicia Keys was born Alicia J. Augello-Cook on the 25th of January, 1980, in Harlem Manhattan, New York. She is the only child of Irish-Italian Teresa, a paralegal and actress. Her father is a Jamaican flight attendant. Alicia was raised in Hell’s Kitchen by her mother, and in her early years she gained a role in The Cosby Show. She learnt the piano at aged seven. At 16, she graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School as valedictorian. She was accepted to Columbia with a scholarship, but she dropped out to pursue music full time. Her debut album Songs in A Minor was released in 2001. She has since released three more albums, and has opened her own recording studio in Long Island, New York called The Oven Studios. She has also begun acting, with a notable performance in 2007 in Smokin’ Aces alongside Ben Affleck, Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, and Jeremy Piven. Her second film, also in 2007, was alongside Scarlett Johansson in The Nanny Diaries. Alicia is now set to develop live action and animated projects with Disney, with a remake of Bell, Book and Candle. She is also set to produce a drama series based on her own life growing up, similar to Everybody Hates Chris.
