Aishwarya Rai was born Aishwarya Krishnaraj Rai on the 1st of November in 1973 at Mangalore in Karnataka, India. She rose to the American public’s attention when Julia Roberts, being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, proclaimed her to be the most beautiful woman in the entire world. At that time, Aishwarya was very famous in her own country of India as a model and actress. She rose to prominence when she won the Miss World title in 1994. She debuted in her first film role in 1997 in Iruvar, and has since gone on to make over forty films – Hindi, Bengali, and English. Her first English language film role was in Bride and Prejudice. Aishwarya has been the first Indian actress to achieve many things – the first to be immortalized in wax at Madame Tassaud’s Museum, to be interviewed on 60 Minutes, being featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. In 2004, she was chosen as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People, which led to her subsequent interviews on 60 Minutes and Oprah. In 2006, she performed in the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. She is now a spokeswoman for L’Oreal, and is married to actor Abhishek Bachchan, and is the highest paid actress in Bollywood today.
